Military Competency Examiner
Howdy, I am here to help any military or former military pilots with their FAA certificate needs. I have been a DPE in South Texas since 2012, helping many military pilots.
14 CFR Part 61.73 lets current and former U.S. military pilots use their military experience to apply for FAA certificates and ratings except for a person who has been removed from flying status for lack of proficiency or because of a disciplinary action involving aircraft operations. Military pilot applicants must pass the FAA military competency knowledge test (for initial certificates) , Complete an IACRA application and present records showing their military experience.

Steps to take
Step 1- For initial certificates- Study, Schedule and Take the
MCN (Military Competency Non-Category) Knowledge test or
MCI (Military Competency Instructor) Knowledge test
Step 2- Gather experience and qualification documentation
(1) An official U.S. Armed Forces record that shows the person is or was a military pilot.
(2) An official U.S. Armed Forces record that shows the person graduated from a U.S. Armed Forces undergraduate pilot training school and received a rating qualification as a military pilot.
(3) An official U.S. Armed Forces record that shows the pilot passed a pilot proficiency check and instrument proficiency check in an aircraft as a military pilot.
Step 3- Complete an application on IACRA (Integrated Airman Certification and Rating Application)
Fill out an application for the rating(s) you are looking to add using the Military Competency selection. The Commercial Pilot and Instructor Pilot Applications are separate if you are looking to add both at the same time. Once completed you may submit the application(s), we are able to edit the application later if needed.
Note: A couple there are some certificate actions that still require a paper application on a FAA 8710-1 form.
Step 4- Schedule a meeting with me to process your application. The meeting to process your application will be virtual but we will most likely have pre-meeting email/text correspondence or a phone call
Note: You are welcome to contact me with any questions on the process before you start. Please fill out your information on the contact page and I will get with you ASAP
